Courtesy Visit by KOMCA: Strengthening Regional Ties in Music Copyright

April 30, 2025

MACP recently had the honour of hosting a courtesy visit from senior representatives of the Korea Music Copyright Association (KOMCA). The delegation included Mr. Chu Ga-Yeoul, Chairman of KOMCA, Mr. Peter Park, General Manager, and Mr. Soohoo Park, Head of the Licensing Bureau.

The visit proved to be both insightful and productive, with discussions centering around shared challenges in the music copyright ecosystem — particularly issues related to royalty collection and distribution in both Malaysia and Korea. It also offered an opportunity to reflect on the unique and dynamic music cultures of both nations.

A key highlight of the meeting was KOMCA’s proposal to establish a cultural exchange program, with a focus on the composition of traditional music from Malaysia and Korea. This exciting initiative has the potential to foster greater creative collaboration, cross-cultural appreciation, and stronger institutional ties between our two organizations.

MACP extends its sincere appreciation to KOMCA for the meaningful exchange of ideas and goodwill. We believe that ongoing dialogue and cooperation with regional partners are essential to strengthening the global network of music rights management.

Stay tuned for updates as we continue to explore this promising collaboration and other initiatives that support the rights and growth of music creators.
