Final 12 songs announced for AmBank Cipta Lagu Competition
The organizers made a surprise announcement when not 8 but 12 songs were selected for the finals of the AmBank Cipta Lagu Competition. Amongst the songs which made it to the finals compositions by Salman Shariff, Neves (dari Kumpulan Pretty Ugly), Ismail Nawab, Loo See Luan, Jimmy Fong, Vijayanathan, Alfred Teo.

According to the organizers, the jury had the difficult task to select only 8 songs as all the 20 songs in the semi-finals held on 11 November were of high quality. As a result, a last-minute decision was made to increase the final songs to 12. The panel jury comprise En Anuar Dahlan (Head Jury), En Johari Teh, Mr Johami Chelliah, Ms Helan Yap and En Azam Dungun.

20 songs shortlisted to semi finals in Ambank CiptaLagu 2010 Song Competition
The organizers, KOPSTAR and RTM are pleased to announce that the following songs which been selected to the semi finals which will be held on 11 November 2011 at Auditorium P Ramlee, Wisma Radio, Angkasapuri, Kuala Lumpur.

Royalties out on 1st August 2011
Members can collect your royalty cheques from MACP’s office during office hours beginning from Monday, 1st August 2011 till 12 August 2011.

Members are advised to call MACP D&D dept to find out if you have royalties this year. After 15 August 2011, we will mail out the cheques to members based on the correspondence address registered with MACP. Kindly inform us of your latest address to avoid any loss of cheque as a penalty will be imposed if MACP has to re-issue a new one.

4 to 7 July :
“Cipta Ekspres at Port Dickson”
The 7th annual ‘express’ composers’ workshop gathered 20 promising and established composers and lyricists at the Port Dickson. The composers were divided into 8 groups with an established composer paired with a promising/young composer. Each group will collaborate with their team member to compose a new song which is “fast & radio friendly”. 4 lyricists were invited to pen the lyrics to the new melodies. The challenge amongst the participants is to work with their partner to come up with a new composition which meets the theme.

The 4 days/3 nites event saw participation of S Atan, Azmeer, Tam Spider, Awang BPR, Anuar Dahalan, Ruslan Mamat, Is Wow, Hanafi Spider, Amirah Ali, Anas Hamdan, Rudy Halim, Amir Crush, Dali Ahli Fiqir, Iswandy, Rithan Deeja Voodoo Spells, Zack Budak Kacamata, Siti Zaleha, Ad Samad, Adeep Fabulous Cats and Abie Abdullah. 2 arrangers, Greg Henderson & Firdaus Mahmud were there to arrange some of the songs.

On the last night of the workshop, all the new songs were showcased before guests from the media, recording companies and music publishers. The “Favourite Cipta Ekspres” song, “Kebas” selected by 6 members of the guests was composed by Azmeer and Amir Crush with lyrics by Abie Abdullah. They shared the cash prize of RM1,000.00 and all participants received a certificate presented by Pn Habsah Hassan, Chairman MACP.

Last year’s Cipta Ekspres saw the debut of “Kalau Berpacaran” by Sohaimi Mior Hassan, Ana Raffali & Altimet which became a great hit. We hope this year’s workshop will produce similar successful songs!

MACP’s 21st AGM
MACP members voted in 2 new writer directors Y Bhg Dato M Nasir and Abie Abdullah at the 21st AGM. They join existing directors, Habsah Hassan, Ahmad Izham Omar, Ad Samad and Johan Nawawi. Both Ahmad Izham and Johan Nawawi were re-elected to the board at the meeting. Tan Chong Yi retired after serving on the board since 2005.

2 publisher directors Jennifah Johari (Luncai Emas Sdn Bhd) and Janice Foong (Sony Music Publishing Sdn Bhd) were also elected, joining Carol Chan (Warner Chappell Music (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd), Lydia Ong (EMI Music Publishing Malaysia Sdn Bhd) and Jack Teo (Universal Music Publishing Sdn Bhd) who were all re-elected to the board. Another director, Pn Norkhayati Mohd Hashim (Kelarai Sakti Sdn Bhd) will only be due for retirement next year.

The enlarged board now comprises 6 writer directors and 6 publisher directors as approved by members at the 20th AGM.

The meeting also adopted the audited financial statements for the year ended 31 December 2010 together with the reports of the directors & auditors. Messrs Ernst & Young were also re-appointed as the Company’s auditors.

MACP Chairman, Pn Habsah Hassan gave members a detailed explanation on the financial results of the Company which recorded a 10% growth in gross revenue from RM32.7m in 2009 to RM36.1m in 2010. She also updated members on various issues affecting the Company such as the pending amendments to the Copyright Act, 1987, announcement on the waiver of TV broadcast by the Government, activities of Koperasi Industri Muzik Malaysia Berhad and plans on formation of a new collecting body for performers.

Members were also briefed on the various activities conducted by the Company since the last AGM. New members were also informed on the benefits offered by the Company to its members such as study grants, veteran members allowances, reimbursement of hospitalization expenses, funeral expenses etc. Pn Habsah explained that these benefits will be reviewed by the board from time to time and are to certain terms & conditions.

Meanwhile, members were informed that the Company has purchased a new office space in Solaris Dutamas for relocation at the latest by the 1st quarter of next year.

“Jom Tunjuk Bakat” at Himpunan Sejuta Belia
MACP participated at the Gathering of 1 million youths held in conjunction with the National Youths Day 2011 at Putrajaya recently.

MACP took a booth at Celebrity Village located between the Main Stage and Clash of the Bands stage. With such a strategic location, our “Jom Tunjuk Bakat” (Come Show Your Talent) booth attracted hundreds of singing wannabes who showed off their talents before song producers such as Aidit Alfian, Johan Nawawi etc.

Koperasi Industri Muzik Malaysia Berhad (KOPSTAR)
Members of KOPSTAR (Koperasi Industri Muzik Malaysia Berhad) are invited to attend the above meeting which will be held on 16 March 2011, 3.00 pm at Restoran Puteri (Tingkat 1), Lot 3074 Jalan Datuk Sulaiman, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Sg Pencala, 60000 Kuala Lumpur.

KOPSTAR was established in April 2009 for the purpose of creating business activities and opportunities for its members who are in involved in the music industry. Supported by MACP, Pn Habsah Hassan, Helen Yap, Johari Teh, M Nasir are amongst the directors of KOPSTAR.

The agenda of the forthcoming meeting is to discuss the audited accounts for the financial year ended 31 July 2010, discuss the budget for the year 2011 and the elect representatives to the Mesyuarat Agung Perwakilan Tahunan to be held on 15 April 2011 at 2.30pm.

Ambank CiptaLagu 2010 Song Competition
This song competition is organized by KOPSTAR (Industry Music Malaysia Cooperative Berhad) with RTM. KOPSTAR was set up by members of MACP in April 2009. This song competition offers a total of RM100,000 cash prize with RM40,000 for the first prize winner.

It is open to all Malaysians, both amateur and professional of all ages. Entrants are free to submit any number of new song compositions in any language spoken in Malaysia. Judging will be based on the song melody and the final 8 best entries will be translated to Bahasa Malaysia without amending the original melody for the finals which will be broadcast live over RTM in September.
