7 th October 2020, Kuala Lumpur - We refer to the news article titled “Artistes seek MACC probe of ‘hidden hands’ in royalties fiasco” published on the news portal Free Malaysia Today, dated October 6th 2020, where unsubstantiated and baseless allegations have been made of MACP’s involvement in the alleged mismanagement of collection of royalties owed to recording artistes, alongside 3 other companies. MACP would like to formally deny any involvement of said allegations as MACP functions to serve songwriters/composers/music publishers and not recording artistes. MACP asserts that the statement made is factually and grossly inaccurate.

Most countries in the world are going through an unprecedented time with COVID 19. Malaysia is no exception. Every sector of our economy has been affected by this pandemic resulting in loss of income, unemployment and business closures. It has been difficult for everyone.
MACP too, has had its own challenges.
During the Movement Control Order (MCO), our operations were interrupted. This has affected the documentation and distribution process of royalty income.
As a result, the distribution of royalties to our members is expected to be in early October 2020.
We are doing our best to lessen the burden of the times, including:
1) distributing digital royalties at the end of March this year;
2) working with the Government to get financial aid for our members; and
3) giving out MACP’s Covid19 contribution to members last May.
As an additional initiative, we are now open for interim (advance) royalty applications especially for first-time applicants. Email us at general@macp.com.my before 16 August 2020. Terms and conditions apply.
On behalf of the Board of Directors and all at MACP, please keep safe and continue with your creative work. There will be brighter days ahead.
