Excerpts of Speech By Pn Habsah Hassan, MACP Chairperson, At MACP's 15th Annual General Meeting

Financial Year 2004
MACP achieved an encouraging development last year with an income reaching RM19.2 million, exceeding its target of RM18.2 million. This is a 17% increase from the RM16.3 million collected for the previous financial year.

This achievement is due to the increase in income from all sectors namely general licensing (14% increase to RM13.5 million), broadcast (27% increase to RM4.9 million), interest and other income which increased by 12% to RM70 thousand.

TV is still the biggest royalty contributor of 20% from MACP's total income while 14% is from hotels and clubs, 12% from concerts/permits, 10% from shopping and entertainment centres, 9% from ringtones, 8% from restaurants, radio 5%, MAS 3%, cinemas 1% and 8% from the other categories.

Breakdown of income from the TV sector is 50% from Astro TV, 27% TV3, 12% NTV7, 8% RTM and 3% from 8TV.

Menawhile the breakdown of income from the radio sector is 76% from AMP Radio Networks, 7% each from THR.fm and RFM, 5% from RTM and the other 5% from all the other radio stations (such as Ikim FM, WaFM, Manis FM, Cats FM and Best 104).

The income-cost ratio (including MDF cost) was reduced from 15% to 14%. This means that from each RM1.00 of MACP's income, 86 cents will be distributed to the owners of the copyrighted songs.

Accordingly, MACP's excess income (before tax) for 2004 has increased by 19% to RM16.5 million, an increase of RM2.6 million as compared to year 2003.

Membership
MACP's membership currently stands at 2,130 from which 2,060 are writers while another 70 are publishers. 77% (1,633) are full writer members and 3% (68) are full publisher members. Full members are those whom received royalties from MACP last year.

Based from requests made by some veteran members at last year's Annual General Meeting (AGM), the Board has considered a few medical insurance plans for veteran members. The Board finally decided to reimburse hospitalization expenses (one hospitalization only) for members aging between 50 to 60 years old with a total not exceeding RM10,000. All claims must be enclosed with original receipts from the relevant hospital and the member must have at least 50 recorded and registered songs with MACP.

Members exceeding 60 years old fulfilling requirements of 50 registered works with MACP and needing hospitalization financial assistance are required to submit original receipts to MACP and the Board will consider the applications on ‘case-to-case basis'.

MDF Activities
Since MACP's AGM last year, there had been many activities organized such as sports activities, 9th MACP Awards, briefings for new members and government agencies and also our participation in WIPO/CISAC international seminar held in Kuala Lumpur and also the CISAC Congress in South Korea .

MACP's Website
Arising from members' request at last year's AGM, members' names and the Company's Memorandum and Articles of Association have been incorporated into MACP's website, namely www.macp.com.my .

MACP's Office
At last year's AGM, some members proposed that MACP move to another area due to the lack of parking spaces and the congested road during school breaks. After considering the prospect of buying a new building and to sell the current office, it is noted that the idea is not feasible financially. Due to this, the Board decided to stay put at the current place until a suitable time when the office no longer serves to fulfill MACP's needs.
