MACP AWARDS 2008
The 12th MACP Awards 2008 was successfully held on Friday, 18 April 2008. For the first time, it was held outside Kuala Lumpur to bring the event closer to the people in Kuantan. With the cooperation of Radio Television Malaysia (RTM), for the 2nd consecutive year, it was telecast live by RTM1 at 8.45 pm starting with the Red Carpet and followed by the show which began at 9.00 pm.
In conjunction with this year’s telecast, besides the traditional awards based on royalty distribution, the finals of the “Juara Kepada Juara” (“JKJ”) competition was also held. Unlike most music awards with emphasize on the popularity of the artistes, the JKJ competition aims to expose the public quality songs. The winners were determined by a panel of professional jury which took into consideration four main components in a song ie the melody, lyric, music arrangement and artiste performance. Individual awards based on these catergories ie “Best Melody”; “Best Lyric”, “Best Music Arrangement” and “Best Vocal (in an album) & Best Performance (live) & “Best Song” were announced at the end of the show.
After almost 2 months of vetting through almost 1,500 songs published and recorded by Malaysians between 1 January 2007 to 28 February 2008, the songs which made it to the finals were :-
- “Hati” - Composer : Sharon Paul, Lyricist : Shuhaimi Baba, Arranger : Sham Kamikaze, Artiste : Datuk Siti Nurhaliza;
- “Izinku Pergi” - Composer & Arranger : Azlan Abu Hassan & Lyricist : Sulu Sarawak, Artiste : Kaer Azami;

Except for the song “Izinku Pergi” which was delivered by Nassier Abu Wahab that night; all the other 4 songs were performed by their original artistes. The winner of the Best Song Award received cash prize of RM10,000 plus trophy while winners of the other 5 awards received cash prize of RM3,000 plus trophy.
